If you are reading this is means you can see and that you can read. Two things that so many do not have the privilege to do. In 2013, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) coordinated with the WHO and other organizations to initiate the global initiative that began World Sight Day. I was created to bring awareness to vision impairment and blindness globally.
In August of this year, the IAPB reported that 1.1 Billion people have vision loss. Vision Impairment was considered by the "...a leading and largely preventable cause of disability worldwide." , so there is something we can do about it. Children shoe better education results with vision correction, and as populations in the US and around the world age, improved sight also improves our productivity and of our quality of life.
Sight is often an ignored part of our whole health story and of our personal sustainability. Vision Impairment and loss has been a part of my own family. I had a grandfather who went blind, and my mother is due for her second glaucoma surgery. so I encourage everyone who can afford it to get their eyes checked.
Of the over a billion people in the world with vision loss, they experienced this because they had limited access to eye care services. Over 18.2 Million of whom live in the United States. If you can, please contribute to supporting those organizations that seek to make it equitable for others do so. Here is a link to to a list of eye sight charities so you can be a part of bringing #HopeInSight.
