PROJECTS
Grant Writing and Administration
In her capacity as the Market Promotions Coordinator, Nattaliah worked with another local food consultant, Sharon Yeago to land another grant from The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation to help secure the Dania Beach PATCH with a Trailer to grow their Mobile Markets. It also helped promote and create educational opportunities for those interested in learning how to grow food in Florida.
The grant supported all aspects of the USDA FMPP Grant and several other things including the following:
-
Promote locally grown food and nutritional education and outreach
-
Research, review, craft an RFP for and purchase a trailer for the Mobile Market program
-
Create the collateral to support current and new farmer/grower education with another training course supported by UF/IFAS in Davie, the 2019 Sustainable Urban Agriculture Short Course
Administration of USDA FMPP Grant
The Broward Regional Health Planning Council worked with the Dania Beach CRA to land a three-year USDA Farmers Market and Local Food Promotions Program (FMLFPP) Grant, valued at just under $250,000. The grant period runs from September 2017 through October 2020, as calls for the creations of a Mobile Market that serves low-income, low-access census tracts throughout Broward County.
Working with the Market Manager and a local food consultant, Nattaliah was selected as the Market Promotions Coordinator for the FMLFPP Grant.

Administration of Urban Garden Training Program
After the completion of the creation of the Apprenticeship Training Program Manual, SURG was hired as the consultant to administer the program. We successfully trained six (6) apprentices and two graduates of the program were hired to work at the PATCH Garden.
*Two graduates went on to work at the PATCH Garden, another manages a multi-acre family farm, and another works with a partner to run a Food Equity Non-profit.

Urban Garden Course: Creation of Urban Garden Apprenticeship Program Manual
As an early volunteer of the People's Access to Community Horticulture - PATCH Garden Dania Beach, and a supporter of its Market Garden concept and vision, SURG was hired by the Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC) to develop an apprenticeship training program to help take the PATCH to its next stage of development.
SURG created the Apprenticeship Training Program (ATP) to include Course Materials with quizzes, Trainer/Instructors Manual with detailed instructor note PowerPoint slides, and the Apprentice Activity book with PowerPoint notes. This was completed on time and under budget.

2016 Project : Start-Up Human Resources Scale-up
RawONE was a six-year-old family-run specialty manufacturer that created raw snacks serving Whole Foods Stores in the South-East. SURG Consulting worked with them in the summer of 2014 to help them streamline their HR Operations, notably their onboarding practices, performance evaluations, job descriptions and refining their GMPs, training manuals and Employee Handbook. They required our services as they were preparing to expand with Whole Foods into two more regions before also going national with them.
